BWE Partnership – launching Scotland’s first commercial-scale solar park
With a pipeline of large solar PV projects throughout Scotland, BWE Partnership approached think in 2015 looking for support to launch its latest development, a commercial-scale solar park, the first in Scotland.
Located in Carmyllie, Arbroath, the 9.5MW, ground-mounted solar PV park will produce enough energy to power more than 6600 homes, equivalent to a town the size of Montrose.
We worked closely with BWE Partnership to develop a 12-month plan which included key milestones for the project, such as planning permission granted and construction commencing. We prepared detailed press releases highlighting the key facts of the project, size, investment, support from the local supply chain and more.
Alongside the profiling of this particular project, we also completed PR activity focusing on other Scotland-based projects to continue raising the profile of BWE. A further focus of the PR campaign was to target farmers and landowners to encourage enquiries from those who could potentially play host to further projects.
The first announcement, which focused on work set to commence on the Abroath project, secured PR coverage across a range of business, mainstream and industry titles. Locally, this included the Arbroath Herald, the Montrose Review and the farming supplements of the Press and Journal and the Dundee Courier – both key media targets. Nationally, the announcement was featured on the BBC, STV, the Daily Record, the Scotsman and the Times, whilst industry specific titles – for both farming and renewables – included Farming UK, Renewable Energy Focus and renews.
A number of media enquiries for further details and interviews were received following this announcement, and the general profile raising of BWE meant that further requests for comment on various issues, including solar subsidies, were also received throughout the year.
