Aberdeen Sports Village - Opening of £22million Aquatics Centre
ThinkPR has been working with Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) since 2012. As part of PR activity ThinkPR was required to produce a tailored and creative PR plan to profile the development and opening of its new £22million Olympic standard Aquatics Centre.
ThinkPR actioned a campaign to build anticipation amongst the local community as well as demonstrate the impact the centre will have on all users and the north east at large.
The team targeted news releases about each milestone in the building process as well as the official public opening release.
Support for the centre was secured from swimming stars David Carry and Hannah Miley who attended photo sessions, submitted quotes and were interviewed by the press.
Key staff members were also profiled throughout the campaign, which assisted in raising awareness of the recruitment opportunities at the centre.
PR activity focussed heavily on the Commonwealth Waterpolo Championships, the first international competition to be held at the centre. ThinkPR liaised with all ASV partners, Scottish and British Swimming, local coaches and players to draft a news release announcing details of the week-long tournament. A well-attended press event was also organised and managed by ThinkPR.
Through liaison with the local and national press, each tailored news release secured coverage in The Press and Journal, The Evening Express, interviews with Northsound and Original 106 as well as The Herald, Leisure Management and Project Scotland. Airtime was also secured on STV and BBC news.
Over 1000 people visited the Aquatics Centre on the public opening day, a testament to the PR campaign.
